Finished 10th circle already! Worked out whodunnit about halfway through although needed to read on to make sure and it was a good read anyway. Didn't bother doing the puzzle bit though, didn't really like the 'cartoony' bits. It's made me want to read the Dante inferno stuff.

Back to Arabian Nights.....

My son got me another Jodi Picoult out of the library so I will be starting on that soon too. Can't remember what it's called offhand though.

Jodi Picoult's books are some of my favorites. I have read several of her books, my favorite so far I believe was Nineteen Minutes.

I haven't read that one yet. The one my son got for me is 'song of the humpback whale' - started it last night, having a little trouble actually working out how the characters relate to each other. Loving learning about the whales!

I love this book and could not resist writing a review...it's awesome

BEYOND SUMMER By Lisa Wingate

This is a story that could touch every household in America. Every person in each house has a story. From the breadwinner to the smallest child who has no say in their life. They are the innocent who have been given their lot in life and have to follow it until they reach a certain age or life changes in some small or drastic way. At least most have a home with a warm bed in which to sleep. There are other innocents that as babes were taken from their homes and forced to live the unimaginable. This story brings all of these people together, all with their different lifestyles, different stories, and different layers. Layers upon layers…layers that are uncovered and peeled back until you see that at the bottom layer we are all God’s children put here not for our own privilege but for God’s. That even who would be considered the lowest has something wonderful to contribute. Take the journey with “Beyond Summer” and find out where you would fit in. “Beyond Summer” will change how you look at life, at others, at yourself. If a heart beats and eyes can see, you will never look at another homeless person the same way. Come take the journey and enter the kaleidoscope of the colors of life that Lisa Wingate has spun in her new novel. You’ll recognize some of the characters and fall in love with the new ones. Take the journey; you will be blessed as I have been blessed.

I think you mean 1984. It's an amazing book, one of the best dystopic novels ever. If you have not read it yet then I strongly recommend Animal Farm, also by Orwell.

I did a dissertation that compared The Turn with Le Fanu's Carmilla in how they articulate psychological horror. It was such a treat to write.

I am about to begin The Others by Seba Al-Herz.

Currently reading Thin Within and So Long Insecurity.

I attempted to read Reading the Bible for all It's Worth but had to give up.

Hoping to get into some CS Lewis after this.

I actually bought it at your suggestion - haha!

I'm reading the Encyclopedia of Guilty Pleasures. It's a funny, but also informative book about dumb things we like. Dumb foods like Beefaroni, rice crispy treats, or Cheez Whiz. Dumb songs, dumb books, dumb fads, dumb movies. Safety Dance anybody? Care for a Manwhich? Bet you can sing the Oscar Mayer song.

Dumb huh? I made my homemade version of Beefaroni last week and had Manwiches two nights ago. And yes, I can sing both Oscar Meyer songs (bologna and weiners). ETA But apparently can't spell Meyer the first try.

I'm reading "Fatally Flaky" by Diane Mott Davidson

I seriously suggest everybody try to get a hold of a copy of the Encyclopedia of Guilty Pleasures. It's a lot of fun, and we've found it to be a great conversation starter. Tonight we were discussing State Fair food (funnel cakes, corn dogs, etc.), Barbara Streisand movies, Martha Stewart bashing, and Steve & Eydie. LOL

BTW, would you mind sharing your Beefaroni clone recipe? I happen to like Beefaroni, too. I don't want to take this thread off topic, so maybe you'd post it in the House & Garden area, if you've a mind to.

Home - Marilynne Robinson
Blood Meridian - Cormac McCarthy, (I can only take it in small doses. Great writing but it's quite graphic.)
