I am actually wanting to go to college and get a degree in nursing.. I am scared to death to the point i talk myself out of going by the college to register. I was never a great student in high school and I am afraid that I wont do well in college. also I fear going into nursing that i will fail at it. I have always been told that i cant or wont be able to do things by my family. while my twin sister was always praised and encouraged on what she wanted to do. I am so scared I graduated high school in 1999.

....... we don't know what we can do until we try, right?

I personally think that you shouldn't believe what others say... what do they know? If you have a strong desire to go to school for nursing - that's all you need to get started. The bottom line is that God gives us those desires... He'll make a way for them to come true!

That's my 2 cents...

Okay, this is how much of a geek I am....I am registering for my class already, and have a earlier version of the syllabus and am going to start working on the first assignment and maybe the 2nd to have completed before the semester begins!

Thanks! I'm taking 2 classes, and IF I can knock out this one BEFORE the semester begins, then MAYBE I can take 3 classes!

Yes, at the graduate level, that does definitely qualify as an over achiever! LOLOLOL

Well that's a relief, it would be horrible if the prof decided to leave you hanging and not give you "hints" of what you should do next..lol. How large is the class?

Yup, that's exactly what I did! So I have no one to blame but me for that mistake since I should have known better. I tend to get over-confident sometimes, because I feel I know the material so well so I'm not as careful reading the question (duh!) as I should!

tamietwin,
Welcome to the thread! Don't let what anyone else discourage you from doing what you want! If it's a dream, a passion, something that can't get out of your head go for it! Don't listen to what others tell you. It's not impossible, not if God is saying "Yes"..doors open, opportunities come your way, and He gets you through it all.

mutinywxgirl, you are not an overachiever! I read all the chapters for this chem class before class even started..and I did problems. I think of it this way: it's not stupid or geeky, it's SMART! Yeah, I said it we're both smart for being prepared. I'm grateful for this extra preparation or else I'd be truly lost in class (and it's a pretty frustrating class as it is right now.ugh).

Oh, one positive note, I got an 81 on my exam! The professor explained in class today there was an "unfair" questions on the exam that like 9/10 students got wrong..basically everyone in class. So that problem won't be counted so I have an 81! Thats without the curve so as you can see, that makes me happy!

tamietwin i am only a couple of years younger and i'm thinking of med school. i feel ya, it's a tiiiiny bit intimidating :)

but if this is and has been on your heels for a long time, and you've thought and prayed about it, and it's technically feasible for you to do (with time and money and all that kind of consideration) then what is the absolute worst thing that could happen? could you fail to meet your expectations? ok yes, God does not always guarantee us success particularly on our own timeline or terms, but if you put your all in there and keep trying, the odds are that you will succeed one way or another. and if that's the case, THEN what's the worst that could happen? that you get half way done and decide this is just not what you thought and you don't want to do it? well, then, you would have tried and you'd know for sure. the money time and effort put in, at some point, is just worth knowing that you stepped out and tried when you felt it was the best decision you could make.

at least that's part of my massive inner ramblings of many months past. i know it's a huge decision and i have taken a loooong time thinking about it (feel free to search my past posts bc i started a whole thread to get others' perspectives...). maybe if you start lining up the practical things, prepwork and financial planning and all that that you'll need to go, it'll start looking more like a real decision to be made instead of a big amorphous blob of worry :)

regardless good luck with your decision making!

...... classes are great. Thanks for asking.

I wanna try to get in two more lectures in Humanities tonight before I head off to bed. I figured out I need to get through them a little more quickly so I have time to study a little better... the next test (this weekend) is guaranteed to have dates included. (not my forté)

Don't fear what your mother will say. When I first decided to go back to school my dad didn't think I could do it. When I first was in college right after high school I was a bio major and I did poorly in chemistry. I put it to immaturity, I wasn't ready for college, so I didn't do well. So when he heard I wanted to go back to school to pursue biology and chemistry, the first thing he said to me was, "You didn't do good in chemistry before, are you sure you can do it? These science classes?" I was really crushed because I was preparing myself for the class by studying the material before the semester started! I started second-guessing what God was telling me (go back to school!), and I even threw away my notes I had been making for my chemistry class because I remembered how bad I did the first time around I took the chemistry class, and I thought he was right.

But you know, the funny thing about God. He wouldn't let me forget this dream of mine, He wouldn't let me NOT do this! So I became determined to prove to my dad (and to myself!) that I could do this and continued studying until the semester started. Well, long story short I ended up getting an A+ in the general chemistry I class this past spring semester. Not only that, but I got the highest grade in the class. Out of 180+ students! I have since gotten A's in the 2 other bio classes I've taken as well.

I'm now taking general chemistry II, and with God's help I know I can get through this summer class. I get it now, like I never did before when I first took these classes. I give all the credit to God because He's helping me, encouraging me, and even when I get frustrated or worried it doesn't last long because I remember God wants me to do this, He'll make sure I can do it!!

That's the attitude you have to take. If you feel God is leading you back to school, trust Him and not what anyone else tells you!! Btw, now my dad supports me and knows I can do it. He asks me how I'm doing all the time.

Always, (haha, we have the same name! ) you can do it! Nothing is impossible is my motto.lol. Well, I took my second exam yesterday and I got an 81. I was so confident of getting a 93, but I had 2 concept questions on my exam that I got wrong..both! I was hoping for all math problems. I got 13/14 math problems right and 2/2 concept problems wrong. So if it wasn't for those 2 problems...if I'm unsure of the concept problem I tend to overanalyze and then inevitably choose wrong. With math, I know how to do it, I get an answer I know is right. It's black or white, no grey areas with math. Math is easier. I will just have to take it again Monday to see if I can get better!

Update! I got a 100 on my exam!!

This is how it went..lol. I had a 75, 4 questions left to go. I was stuck and started feeling that anxiety-type feeling you get when you think you will get the questions wrong! However, I took a mental step back, told myself not to get worked up...and prayed to God. I asked God to help me focus and understand what I wasn't getting right and how to get it right!

Within 10 minutes I knocked all the questions one by one, till I was at the last one. The final one..drumroll...lol..I see the 93 on the screen, but nothing less than a 100 would do. I finally submit the answer and the computer pops back with the prompt "Correct! Congratulations!" Thank you God!!!

Thank you! Yeah, I have to agree with you, I would probably bite my nails too with anticipation wondering "What did I get??"

That 2 seconds of waiting...lol.

Congrats on doing very well too!! A's are wonderful when you get them aren't they? That's pretty impressive, your score for the english essay. 5 points away from a 100?

Btw, I have to share funny things that I've done since this class started 3 weeks ago. Ever since I started class, I've become so much more forgetful and scatterbrained with everything ELSE in my life.lol. I've been this way because I've literally got chemistry on the brain..I"m so focused on what I have to do, what I have done, what I haven't done, exams that are coming up, homeworks that are due, lab reports due, etc..that now I tend to lose things, misplace things, and just act...scatterbrained!!

I've forgotten my combination lock at the gym twice in the row. Not days apart, but 2 days in a row.lol. While at work this past Friday I tried to give the client our receipt and cc slip..because I had forgotten I had just given them their own! I was at the campus computer lab one day printing out a lab report from my usb drive. About 15 minutes later I'm taking out my laptop to work on another report and I couldn't find my drive! I had to walk back to lab and get it, mentally berating myself the whole way.lol.

I forget what I want to say to people..just today I was talking to someone and trying to make a point about something, and in the midst of explaining to them..I forgot what I was trying to say to make my point!!

I forgot to eat breakfast this morning because I was thinking of chemistry, what I had to do..and by the time I got to the gym my tummy was growling and my entire workout I thought of food.lol.

Oh, and get this. At the ladies lockerroom, I forgot where I had put my things (even though I put them there every time I work out..). I am a walking disaster!!

Thanks!!

I haven't had any forgetful embarrassing moments lately. Just finished my last lab report 15 minutes ago. Now I can just focus on studying for the remaining exam this Friday and the final next week. Things are finally winding down into the homestretch..woohoo!

I don't know what I will do with myself once it's finished. It'll feel odd not being challenged for time..

Actually, I'll probably study and prepare for my organic chemistry class this fall. Don't worry, I will take it easy, now that I don't have any exams or lab report deadlines hanging over me.

How is everyone else doing?

...... I finally psyched myself up and studied up on Algebra for my Math assessment.

I needed to get 23 problems right out of 30. I got 20 right. This means that I will be required to take Math 100, again. Ugh.

Maybe my girls can tutor me.

I've got an English essay due Sunday night... it's on Poetry. I'll be glad when this class is over. I generally love English... but this teacher has a monotone voice in her lectures... and it seems she's reading exactly what the notes say without a lot of 'teaching'. The next unit will be on Drama... I hope I'll like it!

Aw, I"m sorry you have to re-take that math class again. Is it a basic algebra class? Can you re-teak the assessment to get a higher score? It shouldn't be too bad to re-take it though, algebra is not hard.

Oh that has to be a chore to sit through that lecture! lol. What time is your class? If it's right after lunch, or late in the evening, it would probably be hard to stay awake!

I have my 3rd exam, before the final, for the class tomorrow..the first try. I don't feel like studying! It's on thermodynamics, electrochemistry, and nuclear chemistry. I don't mind the first 2 chapters and feel I know that material fairly well. I enjoy the first 2 chapters, so it makes it more fun and interesting for me to learn, but the last one is a little boring. More physics and not very interesting for me. Kinetics, half-lives, and rates is coming back to haunt me!

It's August! Yay! Well, I did very well on my exam. I technically got a 100%, but my score is a 93%..long story there, but apparently the computer I took the exam on decided to switch my answer from what I knew as the correct answer (and so chose it accordingly!), to a WRONG answer! . I know, how can that happen? Well, beats me!

I did my calculations on scratch paper, and got the correct answer. I clicked that answer on the screen, and then clicked "grade" to submit my answer. It gives the prompt "Incorrect!" and I about fainted. . Strange thing, as I clicked the "grade" button, the cursor did a weird number where it abruptly moved quickly to the left (which, happened to be where the wrong answer that was chosen...it was to the left of my chosen answer). I am not kidding! It was a simultaneous occurence...that's why I say my computer changed my answer on me!!

I sat there staying at the computer for a minute, unbelieving..before I got up and spoke to the admin person and told them what happened and showed them my scratch paper with the correct answer and what happened. I know it sounds really farfetched, I would even be raising my eyebrows if someone told me this.lol. However, when I told her I had proof I had the right answer (thank God for working out calculations and having it there on the paper!!), I was told to fill out a form for the professor to review the question and the situation.

It was such an eerie thing. This is the 2nd time I've had a computer glitch taking an exam! Whatever happened to good old-fashioned paper exams? I was told I'd here back from the professor by tomorrow about this.

So, how's everyone else doing? Hopefully no crazy computers changing your answers on you. Oh, and the icing on the cake for computer-related problems..now my laptop won't start up, so I have to take it to the computer doctor tomorrow afternoon..lol.
