Oh, dear. That does NOT make me more inclined to go for my Master's someday! lol!

I am feeling pretty academically invincible just at the moment, though.

I am 2/3 through my VERY LAST CLASS, and I still have an A, thanks to my friend who has a degree in French and helps me to correct a lot of my work. Honestly, I hope that's not cheating (the teacher I had last didn't think it was--she knew about it), but I would not be doing so well in this class without her. I'm very frustrated with the number of corrections she's having to make.

On the other hand, this class is really more about USING the language than LEARNING it...and there are just some things I don't know and they aren't really teaching.

It's interesting, because the exercises we are assigned are not that hard. But the tests are essays that take me HOURS to compose, and then my friend corrects them, and then I rewrite them again.

Anyway...the teacher is letting me go as fast as I want, so I am hoping to have whacked this class completely by the end of the week.

off to do French!...................................

au revoir!

shallbe

LOL don't worry, i don't think everyone is like me by a long shot. it's like the curious case of benjamin button only with confidence ;) i know plenty of other masters and phd students in engineering and other areas who don't have big existential crises or confidence issues or actual academic failures, so i wouldn't worry too much.

congrats on kicking french butt! or rather, le butt francais. the essay writing is a pain but it's great to have your buddy correct things so it has the right grammar and flow and all that... over time that'll start looking familiar, til normal is correct and natural!

Woo hoo for last night being my last lecture in this semi-horrid class!! I'm still a little anxious about missing both lectures next week, but it looks like even missing those points, I'll have my A...IF I do well on the final. Then a full week off after I get home from camp. No camp work, and no school...I can't wait. I'm going to actually sleep!

Shallbe, that's great!

No, I think it's fine to have someone to help you with your French. They aren't doing your work for you, but helping you with the mistakes you make. Isn't that what tutors do? Congrats on the A!

karlie,

Woohoo! Doesn't it feel good to be at the end? Congrats on YOUR A too! I'm relieved just like you that class is over (well, for 2 weeks at least).

I took my final yesterday. I have an A for the lab, but not sure about lecture. I think depending on how I did on the final exam, I could have anything from a B+, A-, to an A. I had an A- prior to taking the final yesterday, so I'm borderline. Doesn't that drive you crazy when that happens? I've been checking online frequently to see if my grade posted or not.

Oh well, I'm still happy about the A for lab. Woohoo, we are an "A" bunch here!

ImSmiling,

Welcome! You'll do fine! What classes are you taking? Have you gone to your first lecture yet?

Hmm...actually I am going to Louisianna Baptist online....so this semester I didn't sign up for e-courses. I just complete my work and send it back to my professor. (This way I can ease back into to a study routine!) Next semester I will be signing in to watch to the instructors in class and will be able to interact via e-mail.

I'm a missions major. I have an english class, sociology, and OT survey this go round. Thankfully all of my core classes transferred from forever ago, so Lord willing I'll be graduating May 2012....I look forward to all the future support you'll be lending!!! Don't worry, I don't think I'm a whiner :0)

It's okay to "whine" sometimes. That's great! I will also be finishing in May 2012. It seems like a long time away, but you watch, it will be here before we know it! So what kind of classes do you have to take as a missions major? You will enjoy sociology. I took that for my general education requirements and I thought the class was really interesting (that and psychology, it's neat to see how individuals/groups interact and why they do the things they do).

Well, I got my grades and so now it's official! A's! I start chemistry in about 2 weeks so I have to start studying now, I'm a bit anxious about this class..

I was a returning student. The lack of study skills were compensated by the maturity I had achieved in the meantime. That is, I acquired some personal discipline from my daily working life and I applied this to my new studies. The resulting degree opened the door to an eventual promotion. Even without the promotion, it was obvious how much my studies improved my whole life. It cost me a lot of money and time, it cost my family life some tension and frustration but it was really worth it.

I haven't been able to keep up with this thread much lately, but here's an update:

Yesterday, I took my comprehensive exam (I drove 14 hours to Lynchburg to take it), and man, it was pretty tough. Most of those questions made no sense whatsoever, but I feel like I did "ok", not great by any means. There were sections, like the research & appraisal, where I felt like Christmas-treeing the whole section, but I didn't and could actually answer some of the questions. Who knows how I did... it'll take 2-3 weeks for me to find out.

Next week, I take my final on-campus class. Today, I'm trying to diligently work on my assignment, but as you can see, I'm here, so I'm not being too diligent. So here I sit in my hotel room, in Lynchburg, VA, on a Saturday morning, with a pool outside... and yet I'm stuck in here doing homework. Ack!!!! What is wrong with me. LOLOL!!

I'm trying to finish my internship by August 13, but not too sure about that. Still need some hours, but because it's summer, there's not many hours to be had. I'm worrying about finding a job when I graduate. In the Fall, business should pick up and I may be able to find a job, but if the economy keeps on like it is, I'm not so sure about that. I was just looking at all the budget cuts for Florida, and all the hits to the economy as a whole, and it's just not looking good. There are jobs up here in VA, but I really, really don't want to move that far. As much as I enjoy being on campus, this is just too far away from family.

So here I am, right at the end of the program, worried about what is going to happen next... what's going to happen tomorrow! Fortunately, I know that God is going to provide... He provided a way for me to do this full-time, so I know He is going to carry me through... but this day to day stuff can be a little scary.

Oh my, I think I could be a professional student for the rest of my life. I so enjoy school now that I am "older" (for lack of a better term). I feel like a sponge that just cant get enough. Now if I could just find a way to make it pay the bills. I spent 25 years in the corporate world (taking courses on and off at night). Finally I gave it up and returned to school fulltime. Finally going to earn my first College Degree.

Good Luck to all of you, make the most of it, education is a precious gift.

I used to think that too! That I could just enjoy being in school forever. But, by the time I have my MA next May, I will have been in school for 8 years straight! I am ready to be done and on with my career! I plan on always learning and growing in my career, and have continuing ed to keep my licence, but I will not be sad to see the hours and hours of studying and exams and papers at an end. Come on, May!

Whoa, that's an accomplishment! 8 years straight? No wonder you're ready to move on! I think I'll be in school forever too.lol. I plan on applying to grad schools next summer, and the phd program is probably 4-7 years...if I remember correctly from reading various school programs.

Yea, when I started, I didn't have even one credit that was transferable. I had a vocational certificate from waaaaay back, but nothing that could transfer. So, I started at the very beginning and got my AA, then my BA, now my MA....one right after the other! I have professors talk to me about going on for my doctorate and offering recommendations and even contacts, but since I don't need it for what I want to do, I have no plans(at this time) to do that. I may change my mind later on, but I kinda doubt it!

That's impressive! I think it shows how dedicated and qualified a student you are that your professors are telling you they would give you recommendation if you go for your doctorate. Cool! That's awesome.

Right now, I'm trying to motivate myself to study material for the chemistry class. I start right after 4th of July, for 4 weeks. I want to continue the "A" trend!

I can't believe it's almost July, this summer is going to fly by and before you know it the regular school year will be here. Ack!

Praise God!!! I have been praying long and hard for a few months now that the good organic chemistry professor (this is pretty sad, but he's the ONLY good organic chemistry professor they have!) would be teaching organic chem I in the fall. He only teaches lecture in the summer, so I was bummed because I am taking it during the regular school year. But I resigned myself to taking it with a different professor.

Ever since I made the decision to go back to school, I always pray to God for strength and enable me to do well in my classes, that I understand the material and so on. Well, I was rearranging my schedule for fall (yet again.lol) today and I happened to notice one of the organic chemistry classes offered was being taught by this professor MW mornings! I had switched class times for the animal bio class I'm taking, instead of MW morning it's TTH mornings, so it works out perfect.

I had looked at previous class schedule years to see when he last taught during regular school year and it was..never.lol. So you can imagine how happy I am now..yay! Even though it is a tough subject, the professor can make the difference.

However, I'm waitlist #8. I'm not worried though, I imagine they'll open up more seats for the class. I'm so glad God has answered my prayers here!

LOL. only good? at my school you got the only only, one and only, singular orgo prof ;)

no seriously though that's great. profs CAN make a WORLD of difference, so being on the level with whoever's tryin to teach you is key.

so. just signed up for giantexam... didn't vomit, so that's a good sign. i pray i can get ready. getting this beast put down with a reasonable score would really free up the rest of my grad tenure to focus on making a great upward trend impression on my boss, from whom shining recommendations must flow!

Okay, that would be worse..to have only one professor teaching it!

Just checking in. 2nd summer class starts in 4 days. I'm not ready! I've been trying to study ahead, and I've read 6 1/2 chapters (out of 9) so at least I will be up to speed when the prof lectures..you know, not going "HUH?".

Still, I wish I had more time to prepare. Chemistry in the summer..sigh.

Hope everyone has a great 4th!!

I have this week off and it's been great. My next class begins on the 7th. I'm ready!

I managed an A in my psychopharmacology class too...amazing! It was probably the hardest A I have ever earned. I did nothing but homework and study, but it was worth it to keep my GPA where it is!

I officially start Aug 24th with my first class, and the 2nd class starting on Aug 26th. They are both evening courses and done via distance learning. Welcome back to graduate school for me! One is a doctoral level course on Disaster Response, and the other is Program Evaluation - a statistical overview of the various types of disaster/fire organizations and how they interact in the overall disaster management field.

Congratulations on the A! Job well done!

That shouldn't be bad. How does distance learning work? You take your exams online or do you go to a testing center?

I am as prepared as I'll ever be for this summer chemistry class. I really struggled to read the chapter on electrochemistry, I could feel my eyes glazing over. I got maybe a quarter of the way through before I stopped reading! Thermodynamics and acid-base and ionic equilibrium was interesting to read, I didn't even bother reading the chapter on nuclear chemistry (I could predict it would be another eye glazer . I really liked the intro to organic chemistry chapter. Out of all the chapters I read, it was my favorite one. I think I will enjoy taking organic chemistry in the fall.

I don't think I'll enjoy gen chem II very much, only because it's condensed in such a short period of time and it's pretty much all math problems.ugh. If only I could skip over this one and go straight to organic chem.haha. I'm not crazy for saying that am I, enjoying organic chem?

lol! This last week was all I get of a summer break...I have classes twice a week, every single week straight on until Christmas...I think I have 10 days off then. Then, other than a week at Easter, then back to it until graduation in May. In November, I'll start practicum which will last until I graduate, so that will definitely add to my "school" hours. But, I can't wait!

Yes, yes you are. But no worries, the world needs a few of that particular brand of crazies so the rest of us DON'T have to deal with orgo as much! I finally finished my 2nd go round of reviewing orgo for this giant test and i must say it makes me kinda nuts. I feel like the review book isn't that great in a couple of spots but I can't really ditch it and just use my own orgo notes because they're waaaay too involved... hopefully going to take a few full length practice tests in the next few days so wish me luck (O.o).

hope everyone had a good 4th and managed to find the time to eat too much grilled food and pie :)
